Frenectomy prevents future bone loss for the reason that failures to repair or eliminate the abnormal frenulum pull may lead to bone loss in the future. So this procedure prevents or minimize dental bone loss. There are many kinds of frenctomy procedures depending on whcih part is affected and needs repairing. So you won't end up wearing false teeth.

If you are talking about an abnormal mandibular labial frenum then the answer could be yes. Because this could prevent the forming of an adverse periodontal environment.

The frenectomy is often performed so that other dental procedures can be performed, of which might assist with the decline of bone loss.
