The Sixth Amendment to our Constitution insures your right to face your accuser in open court. This is so basic and fundamental to our rights as Americans. It protects from false imprisonment, and our founding fathers believed in this so strongly they swore it into the law of our land.

In a courtroom, from the judge's view, the table on the left is the plaintiff (the accuser) and the one on the right is the defendant (the accused). In that way, the accuser is "facing" his accuser. In some cases, like rape, the victim might not be present, but is represented by the prosecution for the state, the "accuser. "
