Depends on how you have your TV hooked up,If you have the S-Video cable hooked up then you will need to hook up the red and white audio cables to get sound. When hooked up with the HDMI or Coaxle cable no audio cables are needed.

TV audio problems may be due to worn out speakers or amplifiers. The most common reason for the loss of audio is the wire to the speakers is very thin and sensitive, so if it gets damaged a little then it will lead to loss of audio. Last reason is damage of audio IC embedded in the Printed Circuit Board.

Try to elimate problems. Check audio cables with known working cables. Check TV settings to make sure speakers are turned on. If working with a receiver, check your channel settings.
