Most trees begin with a tap root when they germinate and while they are still young. As the tree matures, though, a fibrous root habit develops, with many spreading, branching roots and only a few deeper tap roots to anchor the tree in the earth. Most of the roots will be in the top 50cm of the soil.

Depending on the type of tree, you can determine what type of roots. Most shade trees have a tap roots and more sunlight trees have more fibrous roots which is mostly used to hold water for long periods of time so you do not have to water as often as you do a tap root tree.

Fibrous root and also get go know the advantages and disadvantages of plants with fibrous roots which grow widespread on the area.Such plants are difficult to pull out of soil easily and even if they come out the roots stay under the surface of the soil and regrow.
