Do the French celebrate their birthdays?

I don't want to be insensitive to my French friend.

Joyeuse anniversaire! Yes, the French celebrate their birthdays - there is not much cultural difference between a French and an American birthday celebration. Depending on closeness of relationship - a simple 'happy birthday' expressed in speech, to a card, cake, present or party. Bonne fĂȘte (have a good party)!

Yes, of course they do! They exchange gifts, have cakes with candles, and single to each other. So go out, buy a present, and with them Joyeux Anniversaire!

They celebrate their birthdays just as much as anybody else. It depends how sensitive your friend is, and how close a friend he/she is. The least you could do is wish that person a happy birthday on the day, you don't have to feel obliged to gift them a present, as long as you show that you care.
