Some sweetners have caused health problems in lab animals. Saccrine (sweet and low) has caused bladder cancer in rats, but there is no current proven direct link to humans. The key to any sweetner is use it in moderation.

Studies in rats have shown artificial sweeteners, such as aspartame, have caused tumor growth and various kinds of cancers. It is known that consuming high amounts does increase risk of cancer; but companies claim they are unrealistic amounts you have to consume.
