Do hamsters fight as part of the mating process?

I have a male and female that are always fighting.

It is common when trying to breed hamsters, but not part of the mating process. Special steps need to be taken to introduce them to each other, so do some extensive research on that before trying again. Hamsters are solitary and territorial, especially the females.

Yes, they do fight. And actually, one of my friends just told me that the female was biting the bottom of the male. He also told me that that is a part of the mating process.

Dwarf hamsters will play fight when they are awake. They do not fight because they are mating. If the hamster squeaks, it's letting you know they are being hurt.
