The book was popular for school reading for a number of years. It's a riveting account of the revolt against racial discrimination in Kenya. The author is a famous writer in Africa. The story is a fictionalized account of all too real events. The translation is a bit rough in places, but otherwise it's an excellent read.

I have not read the book yet, but I definitely plan to do it, because it is a hallmark of African literature.

No, I did not read it. I have never heard of the book in my life but if it's about a war then maybe you should read it to better educate yourself on the subject so you are ready to talk about it when it comes up in conversations with educated people.
