In 1960, Cassius Clay was 18 years old and won the gold medal for boxing at the Olympics in Rome. He changed his name to Ali in 1974 after joining the Nation of Islam. Ali then lit the Olympic torch in Atlanta in 1996.

Muhammad Ali (known as Cassius Clay at the time) participated in the 1960 Olympics in Rome where he won the gold medal in the light heavyweight division. In 1996 he was invited to light the torch at the 1996 Olympic Games held in Atlanta. His ameteur record was 100 and 5 before he turned to professional boxing.

When he was an amateur, he went to the Summer Olympics in Rome, in 1960. He won the gold medal in the light heavyweight division, and the rest is history.
