Colonel Harland Sanders began selling chicken in 1930 at a gas station in North Corbin, Kentucky. At the time, Sanders' fried chicken took over half an hour to cook on an iron skillet--far too long for a successful restaurant operation. Sanders began changing the recipe, and arrived at the Original Recipe in 1940. 12 years later, he founded KFC.

Yes, Colonel Sanders actually invented the Kentucky Fried Chicken seasoning that makes that unique taste. They quickly gained popularity and he started up food chains.
