Mosqitoes have been known to carry diseases and germs causing medical conditions such as malaria and encephalitis. A bite from a mosquito transmits these diseases to the individual. A common symptom of an allergic reaction to any insect bite is hives.

Hives are a common allergic reaction. You could easily be allergic to either mosquito bites in general or to a contagion in those particular insects, which would cause the hives.

The hives you have were caused by a reaction to the mosquito bites. The mosquito injects a small amount of toxin into your system causing itchy welts or hives.
