If you put a cast on and it stabilizes your entire fibula, then you should be able to walk on it. You might still feel pain though.

It depends. If there is a major break, it is impossible, at least at first. If it is a more minor break, and especially if you are wearing a cast or brace, it can be done. You should only do so once your doctor has given permission, however, as walking on it prematurely can cause further damage.

It is possible for a person to be able to walk with a broken fibula. This is mainly because the fibula doesn't bare too much of the body's weight. But a person who walks on a broken fibula WILL be in a lot of pain so it's probably best to talk with a doctor about it!

My sister in law thought she had a sprained ankle and walked around for a week on hers with it just wrapped up in an ace bandage. We took her to the ER after the swelling and bruising didn't go down. Yep Broken Fibula. She's in a cast now.

You can walk on a broken fibula however it will be very painful and, disrupt the healing process. I can't see why anyone would want to put themselves through the pain. If you have a broken fibula, which you would find out from an x-ray, I'm sure the doctor wouldn't have you leave the hospital without a cast and/or crutches.

If the break in the fibula does not puncture the skin, or injure the calf muscle you should be able to walk on it. Care must be taken so as not to rupture major blood vessels. The tibia, which is the larger of the two bones in the lower leg, should bear your weight.

People have been known to do so, generally under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or a lot of adrenaline. If the tibia is intact, the leg will still be able to physically support the body, but under normal circumstances, pain will of course prevent the injured person from putting weight on the leg.

I slipped 4 days ago and had immediate pain, swelling and bruising. Have hobbled around all weekend. It hurt pretty badly but was not impossible to walk. After x-ray this morning I was diagnosed with broken distal fibula. Doctor put me in a cast and gave me crutches.

You can but it is very painfull. The fibula is not a weight bearing bone. That said I would not walk on it and would get medical attention to make sure it does not get worse.

I broke my fib nearly 2 weeks ago. Had 2 screws inserted and a cast from toes to knee fitted. How anyone can walk with this sort of injury is beyond me. Who knows? I'm just about managing with crutches.

in a cast from knee to ankle, how long after being in cast should you begin walking on a broken fibula. My dr says one thing, but many others are complaining about this doctor, or that they have had same break and I should not be walking on it yet.
