Can you tell me how to sew in a ponytail?

Gather your hair, yarn or cord and attach it to a popsicle stick, tightly banding it approximately 2-3" down the stick. Make a small slit in your material, insert the one end, turning your material inside out, loosely baste the stick to the inside,gather the material near the slit and tightly wrap with cord or wire.

You need to take a strip of fabric at least a foot long and more than double the width of your elastic. Sew it on the open seams good sides facing in. Turn it right side out. Then fasten a safety pin to the elastic and thread it through. Sew the ends of the elastic together. Hand sew the tube.

I am completely clueless about how to sew in a ponytail, particularly if it is on someones head. On fabric baste loops from the reverse side of the fabric.
