Start with stripping off any old wax with ammonia, and scrubbing vigorously. Some repairs may need to be made, and sometimes you can find replacements on the internet.

It all depends what kind of tile you are talking about. When working with ceramic tile you need to take out all the grout and regrout the tile, hopefully there are none broken. Wood tiles you would need to sand and refinish with a stain and a polyurethane finish.

Typically once the tile surface is worn it is done. You can try polishing it out and then resealing it to see if that help.

The best way to dress up an older tile floor is to re-grout. Grout can be found in a variety of colors and can change the whole look.

The grout can be removed or color enhanced. Cracked tiles would have to be replaced. There are products on the market that do a great cleaning job.
