If you've waited and waited for the settlement and talks on the issue seem to be slowing or your representative isn't returning your calls, visit a local lawyer and have a professional correspondence sent from the attorney. The insurance company likely doesn't want a settlement this way.

If your vehicle is a total loss you need to allow them to inspect, make you an offer, ensure offer is fair and get them the title to the vehicle.

File a claim with the insurance company, they will contact you for details of what happened. If you have the proper coverage then there will be a settlement.

You need to give them firm evidence of the amount of your loss, along with the fact that it is covered. Sadly, it is not unusual to need a lawyer.

Most insurers are extremely interested in prompt and fair settlement of claims. Adjustment expenses are a heavy burden on insurers and thus, prompt resolution is ideal despite public and media opinion. Provide all requested documentation and cooperate with policy provision for the easiest, quickest, and most fair settlement offer.
