Can you provide me help with fraction word problems?

I am working on my math homework and have no idea even where to start.

A fraction looks like 1/2. The 1 above the line is the whole. The 2 is the amount that the whole is divided into. Two half carrots make one carrot.

Don't get caught up in the fact that fractions are involved. Try to turn the word problem into variables and equations, and then try to express the question in the form of an equation as well. Then, substitute values for the variables in the equation and calculate the result.

It depends on what the problem is. I was once taught to think of the word problems as cakes. For every whole imagine one cake and then cut it up.
