There are many great resources you can call upon. The website for Purdue Horticulture is very helpful. You can join a local garden club, or check your library, Amazon. com and many other resources that can help you with identification specific to your area.

Curcurbits, examples are cucumbers, melons, squashes, have large spiny leaves which protect the fruit during the growth period. Legumes, examples are peas beans have small rounded leaves. Peppers have elongated smooth leaves which allow the sunlight to reach the fruits. Tomatoes have a spiked lobe at the ends. All leaves protect the fruits from sun damage.
