Watermelon can be grown in a container. You need to allow something for the melon vines to vine on, such as a trellis or such.

Tomatoes grow well in aeroponics and hydroponics, so very little root space is needed. Growing a watermelon on a sunny Southern wall with the plant cascading out a window is a lot of fun. Choose a small-fruited watermelon and be ready to provide support so that the weight of the watermelon does not rip it off the plant.

Yes. There are tons of different varieties of mellows available. You can even get trellis melons that you can grow in a small container with a trellis.
