Anthropods are a group of animals of which insects are one of the four subgroups. The first group, chelicerates, includes spiders, mites and scorpions. Crustaceans are the next group. This includes shrimps, lobsters, crabs and barnacles. The insects are the third group, known as the hexapods. Then there are the myriapods which are the millipedes and centipedes.

All insects are arthrpods but not all arthrpods are insects. Arthrpod literally means jointed foot. Arthrpods includes insects, spiders, crabs, and lobsters.
