The best thing to do is to prepare an official letter as well as a copy for yourself and explain why to your supervisor that you are resigning. I would also make sure to note to him how much you liked working for him or her and that you want to maintain a healthy relationship with them.

Resigning "orally" means that notice is given by announcing "I quit" or "I resign" or "I'd like to give my two weeks' notice starting today." Resignation should always be offered in writing so that all parties are clear on the employee's intention. Simply giving an "oral" notice usually results in immediate termination.

Approach your boss or supervisor and ask if he/she has a free minute. If available let he/she know that you would like to tender your resignation today and that you are giving your two weeks notice. If you have already received another position, let your boss know that you appreciate the opportunity but you have accepted a position elsewhere.

Most people say "I quit," and leave. Unless that's your plan, write a letter of resignation. State simply "Please consider (this date) my last day. I have enjoyed working here and thank you for the opportunity." ALWAYS leave on a high note, no matter how much you hate the job/boss/co-workers. Be positive, be classy and move on.

Resigning orally is when you say you are quitting or resigning. This includes outright saying, "I quit", "You can take this job or shove it", or "I'm out of here. " It can also include threats of "If you demand I do that, I quit" and then they state that the action is a requirement of employment.
