Question by  pdavenpo (74)

Can you give me parenting advice for my 18 month old toddler who hits?

He's tried to hit me and also his 3 year old sister, but I don't know how to get him to stop.

Whatever you do, don't hit back! That would indicate that hitting is appropriate. Separate him from the situation with a time-out in his room or a quiet corner. Or take away a toy or a privilege, like TV time. Calmly explain why he's being punished.

Smack his hand whenever he tries to hit anyone, and tell him that its bad, you don't hit. Its a bit hypocritical, but its the best way to get the point across.

Don't spank him for it. That will only confuse him. Trying hugging him to you or holding his hands until he calms down. Be consistent.
