Can you get unemployment if you quit your job?

I wish I could stay home full time and get unemployment checks, but can you get them if you quit?

The answer depends on your state. The standard is that you be available, willing and able to work. Most states will not allow collection if you aren't seeking work.

Not if you quit your job or if you are fired. You can get unemployment if you are laid off. You have to actively look for work to collect unemployment.

No you cannot collect unemployement if you quit. One way you may be able to collect would be to change jobs and get a seasonal job that would lay you off later or get a temporary job and then when that job is over you may be able to collect.

If you voluntarily quit your job, unless you can prove that they created a hostile work environment, you cannot collect unemployment. Furthermore, unemployment checks require proof that you are job hunting in order to get them.
