Can you cover sheet rock with a light-colored paint?

Yes you can, but you will need to tape,bed,and texture it first. After that you need to us a primer/sealer. I suggest SPS White Pigmented Shellac from Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams as these products are the best. You will probably want to make sure that the room is well ventalated because the fumes can be overwhelming.

You should consult with the paint experts at your local home improvement store to pick a brand of primer which will be appropriate for your sheetrock. Once the wall is properly primed then painting it should not be a problem.

yes, however you should use at least two coats of primer before you use any color at all. The paint and primer together would not be advisable for that situation because it would probably require at least four coats, which would make it more cost effective to use a separate paint and primer
