Can wisdom tooth extraction cause headache and fever?

I just got two wisdom teeth removed, and have a headache and a fever... could they be related?

Infection occurs with about 1 or 2 people out of every 100. Headache is also associated. If your fever is over 100 degrees, you have abnormal swelling, salty or prolonged bad taste in your mouth call your dentist. You should also call if the headache lasts more than 24 hours.

Your dentist should have let you know that you'd have some pain with the extraction of your wisdom tooth. An infection may also cause the fever and headache. You should contact your dentist if you are not on any antibiotics. Take your pain medications or Aleve if you were not given any pain killers.

It is possible they could be related, though if so, that would probably mean that you have an infection. If that is the case, you must go back and see your oral surgeon immediately- they would need to take a look and likely prescribe antibiotics if you have an infection.
