Can mothers respect women who aren't mothers?

I notice a lack of respect between my friends who are mothers, and my friends who are not.

This question implies a type of sweeping generalization that is unfair to both sides. Mothers are individuals just as we all are. There is no set of behavioral rules that apply to either all mothers or all women who are not mothers. When we group people together in the way the question implies, it can lead to unfair stereotyping.

Motherhood can be so consuming. It may not be a lack of respect so much as it's a lack of things in common.

Maybe it's more of a personality thing, because in general I don't think there is a lack of respect brewing btwn moms and non-moms.
