Josephine Baker (1906-1975) was an American-born French dancer, singer, and actress. The first African-American female to star in a major motion picture and tour concert halls around the globe, she became a world-famous entertainer. Baker also is noted for her contributions to the French Resistance during World War II as well as the Civil Rights Movement.
