Can bus tokens be used in more than one city?

If I buy a bus token in San Francisco, can I use it in Sacramento?

No, each county uses its own token or fare system for its public transit system, and these are not interchangeable. The only exception is with systems like FasTrak, which is an RFID chip that is used in different bridges in California. One FasTrak can be used for all of the state's bridges.

Only if the bus system is run by the same company. In your case, no. The San Francisco system and Sacramento system are separate and will only accept their own tokens.
