Can an emancipated minor execute a contract?

Or does it just mean you can live on your own?

It depends on the contract and the state. (Some states do not even recognize emancipated minors.) An emancipated minor can sometimes enter into a contract to, for example, rent an apartment. It is legal to refuse to rent to a minor, and in addition to this, any contract deemed "unnecessary" can be voided.

Yes, an emancipated minor can execute a contract. That is the whole purpose of emancipation. When a child is emancipated they are considered an adult in the state's eyes.

The rules for this vary greatly from state to state, so you need to double-check the rules for your own state before doing anything. However, in most places, an emancipated minor is legally an adult. Thus, they can sign contracts and do anything else that an adult can do (other than purchase age-prohibited items, like alcohol and tobacco).

I believe an emancipated minor should be able to execute a contract. Without this ability, they would not be able to make a living for themselves -- whether it be buying their car or trying to sign a lease for an apartment.
