An S-video cable can not send or receive audio at all. The cable itself is for video throughput only, each pin separating a single color signal that is displayed, making the overall quality of the video better then if all the signals were sent, mashed together, through a single coaxial cable.

S-video is strictly a video connection. For sound from your laptop you should use the line out or speakers connection.

s-video cables only carry video. In order to get the audio to the desired location, you will need to use other means. To put my laptop display on my TV, i use an s-video and an RCA-to-headphone cable.

A standard four pin style s-video cable is not designed to carry audio and video. It is meant to transfer to separate channels withe video information. This means that the audio source will have to be connected by another type of cable. There are special cables available to connect a S-video and audio out to a rca three cable setup.

No, it cannot. It only does picture. I've tried just about everything before and it just doesn't work. You have to have the audio hooked in from an RCA usually.

An s-video cannot carry audio because it only carries the video to ensure the quality is high. In order to have sound on the device, you must have another connection.

S-video by nature does not carry audio, hence it being called S-video. However, like Component and Composite connections, but dissimilar to HDMI and coaxial connections, s-video must have auxiliary audio connections from from the source to either a median device, such as a receiver, or directly to the output.
