A medical assistant can present the consent form for the procedure. It's up to the patient to read and understand the document. The medical assistant also makes sure that the patient has followed the instructions to prepare for the procedure.

The only requirement for a consent form is that the patient be lucid and legally competent to sign the form when it is presented. It does not matter if the medical assistant, the doctor or their office staff give it to sign if the patient was conscious and competent.
