Can a drug test tell the difference between vicodin and percoset?

Although they have 2 different narcotics in them, Vicodan has hydrocodone and percocet has oxycodone. I believe the results will be the same regardless of which drug is in your system. If either one is in your system, you will test positive for "opiates". Most drug screens will not differentiate between opiates.

An initial drug screen would be positive for opiates for either or both. A more in-depth follow-up test could be used to determine which opiates are in your system.

Yes and no. A simple drug test would show that they were opiates, but you could tell the difference using a mass spectrometer, which might or might not be done.

Most drug tests look only for the presence of the pain medication. And Report back when the levels are above prescription strength. But if they want to they can test your blood and tell exactly what you took. They can even tell about when you took it. The equipment can identify over 3000 know medications.

There are several advanced drug tests that can actually break down what type of drugs and the amount that are in your system. These drug testes are usually administrated at a drug test company or blood companies since they are pretty expensive and are usually tested back at the lab.

A drug test will be able to detect the presence of either opioid but it's unlikely they will be able to determine which unless they're specifically testing for those medications.

I believe it depends upon the sensitivy of the test. Most pre-work, or 'drup screening' test will simply show the basic make of drugs in your systrem; THC, ETOH, Stimulants, Depressive, opiates. But I believe the Toxicology test that a Hospital ER would run will give you speciifc drugs and your levels of them. The difference, price.
