Are squamous epithelial cells cancerous?

No they are not, they are just a type of cell. They are characterized by a flat surface layer composed of scale-like cells. They typically occur in places such as capillaries and alveoli - anywhere rapid diffusion of molecules is needed. They are also found inside the mouth, esophogus, vagina and anal cavity.

Squamous epithelial cells are not cancerous. They are a type of flat skin cell that makes up the epidermis as well as line some internal organs. As with any cell, they can become cancerous. This is known as squamous cell carcinoma and can occur in any organ containing squamous cells.
