Are prepaid minutes a rip-off?

It depends on how much you use your cell phone. The individual minutes are more expensive but if you only use your phone once or twice for emergencies you'll end up spending less per month than if you had a monthy plan. So if you are planinning on using more than $30/month its a rip off just get verizon/at&t etc.

I owned 3 different prepaid phones, and they were all rip offs. Unfortunately, most phone plans are a bit pricey still upfront for a lot of us to afford.

In some cases they are cheaper if you use the phone very little since you only pay for the phone once and minutes as you need then. Otherwise you pay every month whether you use the phone or not.
