Are parents more protective over their daughters than their sons?

That all depends on the parents. Some parents are more protective over their daughters as they feel they are more volunerable to being harmed or need more protection from them than a boy would.

Some parents are, and some are not. Generally, I think most parents are protective of their sons and daughters equally, but in different ways.

A friend once told us that when you have a son you have to monitor one "member"; with a daughter, you have to monitor "all the members in the world".

Yes. They tend to protect daughters more because of that perceived innocence in the female species. Since Men are more "tough" they don't worry as much about them.
